In 2001, the Lithuanian Musicians Union and Joint-stock Company Baltic Optical Disc founded the Gold Disc Award, consisting of a trophy and a special CD, for the best performers of the year in four categories: an ensemble, an instrumentalist, a singer, and jazz. A qualified jury awarded the Gold Disc 2002 to the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conductor Saulius Sondeckis, Regina Maciute (soprano), Petras Vyšniauskas (saxophone), Vilnius Municipal Choir Jauna Muzika, conductor Vaclovas Augustinas.
