Concerts

Thanks to its professionalism, Choir Jauna Muzika has gained wide international recognition, toured Europe, China, Israel, and Japan. The choir regularly participates in international festivals, collaborates with other ensembles, conductors, and annually organises its own concerts and musical projects. Here you will find the choir’s most memorable concerts that have taken place over more than 30 years of active performing.

Most memorable concerts

2024

Lithuanian premieres of works by American composer, Pulitzer Prize and Grammy winner Caroline Adelaide Shaw were performed in St. Catherine’s Church. The concert was a mutual endeavour together with Donatas Bagurskas (double bass) and the Mettis string quartet.

2023

The premiere of the band Merope album SALOS was performed in the Bozar Great Hall in Brussels – this marked the sound of the Lithuanian language in the Bozar Hall for the 2nd time in history.

Also, during the Gaida Contemporary Music Festival, Grammy, Oscar and Pulitzer Prize winner, author of the music for the famous director Paolo Sorrentino’s film Youth, David Lang agreed to write a new piece dedicated to the 700th Vilnius anniversary. The world premiere, performed by Jauna muzika, took place in St. Catherine’s Church.

In the same year, an important premiere for the city of Vilnius took place – ‘Vilnius Sarabande’, created by composer Gediminas Gelgotas and writer Kristina Sabaliauskaitė on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city’s name. The sold out concert was performed 2 times, together with the string ensemble NIKO.

2021

Jauna muzika was part of a particularly successful production – G. F. Handel’s opera ‘Acis and Galatea’, using original orchestration, conducted by Trevor Pinnock and performed in an unconventional space – the Nida Gymnasium sports hall.

2017

G. F. Handel’s opera ‘Semelė’ was performed.

2015

The choir celebrated its 25th anniversary and performed ‘Traveler’s Notes’. Also, the Concertgebow Hall in Bruges hosted a concert with M. Kagel’s works ‘Kantrimusik’ and ‘Mitternachstueck’ (directed by O. Koršunovas).

2014

B. Kutavičius’ oratorio ‘Metai’ was performed at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

2012

Together with the German State Rheinland-Pfalz Symphony Orchestra, the choir performed J. S. Bach’s Mass in B minor.

2009

In the ‘Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009’ programme, Jauna Muzika performed with the world-famous Stavanger Brass Band.

2008

One of the most successful examples of modern, interdisciplinary projects was implemented with composer Giedrius Kuprevičius and producer Gytis Padegimas. Such was the opera-zarzuela ‘DaliGala’ in Vilnius St. Catherine’s Church in the spring of 2008.

In 2008, J. Haydn’s ‘Creation of the World’ was performed at the Henry Crown Hall (Jerusalem) and The Opera House (Tel Aviv) together with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by Karl-Heinz Steffens.

In the same year, an important concert took place in Gutersloh, Germany – the ‘Europaisches Chorfestival’.

2007

J. S. Bach’s ‘St. Matthew Passion’ was performed with the St. Christopher Orchestra, conducted by Tamir Chasson (Israel).

2003

Jauna Muzika performed at a one-week festival in Sejny, Poland, dedicated to Arvo Pärt’s work, where he was awarded an honorary title of Borderlander given by the Borderland Foundation. The Choir met with the composer himself, performed ‘Te Deum’ conducted by Saulius Sondeckis.

2002

The choir organized a series of 5 concerts dedicated to the reconstruction of the Vilnius Evangelical Lutheran Church, which featured unconventional vocal and instrumental music programmes.

2001

The Days of German and Polish Baroque Music took place, featuring Musica Antiqua Köln from Germany and Capella Gedanensis from Poland.

In the same year, at the Shanghai International Arts Festival, the Choir performed J. S. Bach’s ‘Mass in B minor’ with the Shanghai Opera Ballet and the Bach-Solisten Berlin Orchestra.

The Choir also toured Israel with the Israel Camerata Orchestra.

2000

Jauna Muzika, together with the Vilnius Town Hall Festival, invited lovers of baroque music to a series of English and French baroque music concerts, featuring The King’s Consort Orchestra from Great Britain and Il Seminaro Musicale from France.

The Choir performed at the Berlin Philharmonic, performing A. Pärt’s ‘Te Deum’ with the composer himself in attendance. Conducted by Saulius Sondeckis.

1999

Concerts and workshops were held at the ‘World Symposium on Choral Music’ in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

1998

In the fall of 1998, the choir initiated the international festival Eternal Light, which was presented in the largest music halls in Vilnius – the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the Vilnius Town Hall.

1997

G. F. Handel’s oratorio ‘Judas Maccabaeus’ was performed with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra at the Henry Crown Symphony Hall (Jerusalem), conducted by Nicholas McGegan.

1995

The Choir participated in concerts organised by the IFCM at the regional European Symposium in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
